Here’s how to transfer your New World character to a different server

New World’s launch was rather rocky though not as disasterous as some live-service game launches we’ve seen.

Unfortunately this rocky launch meant that players were so desperate to play they joined which ever server was available to them, even if it wasn’t the best server or their friends joined a different server.

Since then players have been asking for a server transfer feature and this week that feature went live. Transferring your character is simple enough but you only get one shot at it for now. Players will also have to prepare for the transfer in order to complete it.

For starters, players will need to leave their Company which is understandable given that you are changing servers. You will also need to remove any active sell or buy orders at Trading Posts and your character must be at a settlement or outpost.

To transfer your character, open the new tab in the in-game store and claim your free character transfer token. This will kick off the process to transfer your character. Select the character and then follow the instructions on-screen.

The following will transfer with your character:

  • All character progression including levels, weapons mastery and titles
  • All inventory and storage items
  • All of your currency
  • Houses and house decorations
  • All quest progress

As mentioned, this first transfer is free so use it wisely because while you may be able to do this again in future, you might have to pay depending on the data Amazon has at hand.

“Transferring again will require an additional token. Our team will continue monitoring world populations, queue times, and will evaluate the need for an additional wave of server transfer tokens to be given out for free. After we are sure players have had plenty of time to find the right server for them, we will later make server transfer tokens available for purchase in the store. We will give notice ahead of time when tokens are changing to a paid service,” Amazon Games wrote in the latest patch notes for New World.

If you’re South African we recommend holding on to that transfer token for now. While there is no word on local servers, we’re holding on to ours just in case Amazon decides to launch a local server. While the game is playable on EU servers, we’d rather not have to cope with the lag that presents.

As a way to apologise for the long wait times players have experienced Amazon has given players a new title in The Stoic which describes you as showing “solid resolve in the face of epic wait times” as well as a new “Waiting” emote.

We’re still really enjoying our time in Aeternum even if we’ve spent far too much time chopping down trees and mining ores along the way.
