New 2021 Range Rover revealed, fully electric version expected in 2024

There are cars that set the standard in their respective fields. When it comes to luxury 4x4s and SUVs, Land Rover has most of the competition beat and for next year a new 2021 Range Rover has been revealed by the company.

Before you start asking how much it will cost when new Range Rover lands in South Africa, local details are yet to be shared, but you can already see different configurations of the luxury vehicle here.

Those living in the UK can already start speaking to their dealers about procuring a 2021 Range Rover, with pricing set to start at £94 400 (~R1.94 million).

Along with this newly revealed iteration, Land Rover has not forgotten about some of the sustainability goals it outlined earlier in the year, with a plug-in hybrid model added to the current lineup of options, as well as a fully electric option expected in 2024.

“The New Range Rover maintains its compelling combination of effortless performance and peerless refinement with a comprehensive line-up of advanced six- and eight-cylinder powertrains. Spearheading Land Rover’s Reimagine strategy, a pure-electric model will join the family in 2024, bringing full-time zero tailpipe emissions driving to the Range Rover for the first time,” added the company in a press release for the new vehicle.

Focusing on the more immediate powertrain options, a new 390kW twin turbocharged V8 petrol flavour will be made available, mustering 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds, according to Land Rover.

If you are pondering a plug-in hybrid alternative, the company has added a 375kW and 323kW variants to the mix, which deliver up to 100 kilometres of driving range when working off of the electric battery component alone.

The new Range Rover SV, expected to be available in late 2022.

In terms of technology, support for Alexa throughout the infotainment and vaigation system is available, provided the Amazon-owned digital assistant operates in your country. For South Africans then, it likely won’t be an option, but a lot can happen between now and the new Range Rover’s release.

The software and technology side of things is an area Land Rover has made significant strides in recent years, and we have been thoroughly impressed by what is on offer, particularly in last year’s new Defender.

You can watch Land Rover run through the newly developed in-cabin features and technology in the video below.

When local pricing and availability is shared by Land Rover SA, we’ll be sure to do the same for our readers.
