Sony will unveil your next mirrorless camera purchase on 21st October

Later this week, 21st October at 16:00 local time to be more precise, Sony will be revealing a new camera within its Alpha series.

The precise model being revealed is unknown at the time of writing, but inspection of a YouTube video set for the aforementioned event date and time seems to hint at the long rumoured a7 IV mirrorless camera being on the way.

DPReview did the digging on this one, uncovering quite a bit of metadata for the video.

Said metadata has since been removed, but not before the website was able to capture it. To that end, the following tags featured:

“LCE-7M4 , A7M4 , Alpha 7 , Alpha7 , Sony A7 IV , Sony a7 IV , Sony α7 IV , Sony A7 iv , Sony a7 iv , Sony alpha , Sony α , mirrorless , Sony E-mount camera , full frame camera , 4K , Eye AF , Animal Eye AF , AF , Eye AF movies , field camera , pro camera , silent shutter , FTP , 4K60p , Eye AF birds , camera for movies , 10fps , 33MP , BIONZ XR , 10-bit 4:2:2 HLG , All-I XAVC S-I , S-Cinetone , S-log3 , S&Q dial , vari-angle , gimbal , 5GHz Wi-Fi , USB 10Gbps , live streaming , Creative Look , 15+ stops dynamic range.”

As Engadget points out, should some of the above specifications and elements be correct, the rumoured a7 IV would be quite the prospect in terms of current professional mirrorless camera options and in particular put in the same bracket as Canon’s R6.

If you are eyeing up an upgrade to your current setup, you may want to tune in come the 21st, although with it being an Alpha offering, it won’t come cheap.
