Wits to host Virtual Women’s Conference for STEM projects

The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) will be hosting its first Virtual Women’s Conference organised by its School of Electrical and Information Engineering.

The conference, which will be held online, focuses on students and staff in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.

Between August and October applications were taken for participants to share their projects to present in the conference and win prizes.

“STEM fields have been historically dominated by men, however, in recent years there has been an increase in women applicants, graduates and postgraduate students in these fields. The Women’s conference will be an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the dynamic interventions that women are making in STEM. The Conference will host keynote speakers and provide an opportunity for women in undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, and staff members to present their research over a two day virtual conference,” reads the announcement.

While applications to participate have now ended registration to attend the virtual conference is still open until this Friday, 29th October.
