Could the local launch of the Spot Enterprise Robot ignite SA’s mintech industry?

This week, Dwyka Mining Services revealed the Spot Enterprise Robot as an innovative piece of technology for South Africa’s mining sector.

The capabilities of the robot open up a myriad possibilities when it comes to mapping, exploring and securing mines locally, entering areas that would otherwise prove too dangerous for a human to venture.

Added to this is the ability for the Enterprise version of Spot to carry payloads of up to 14kg and be fitted with a number of different sensors, opening up applications outside of the mining field too.

As such, it is a data-rich developing tool that may help ignite SA’s mintech (mining + technology) scene.

We were on hand at the local launch of the Spot Enterprise Robot and got the opportunity to speak to Dwyka CEO, Jamie van Schoor, who unpacked the potential of this innovative hardware and what it means for getting more youth involved with mining and technology.

With South Africa already having a burgeoning fintech and agritech scene, Dwyka is hoping to be at the forefront of mintech in South Africa.

Listen to the recording of our interview with van Schoor below and find out why the arrival of Spot in SA is a significant one.
