Short course skill stacking could offer the push your career needs in 2022

Skill development is becoming increasingly important for those wanting to effectively react to an evolving employment landscape, but committing to a long-term course can prove taxing.

It is why stacking of an IT short course could provide a solution for those wanting to change the trajectory of their career.

This according to Elbie Liebenberg, MD at Mindsharp, who says skill stacking can serve as a response to changing demands in the workplace.

“Many people are currently evaluating their careers, realising that they need to invest in the development of their skills to ensure their continued employability,” Elbie Liebenberg.

“Regardless of the current field in which you find yourself, there are a host of new programmes in which you can enrol to build on and expand your professional portfolio, which will increase your desirability in the job marketplace and ensure you can move up the proverbial career ladder,” she adds.

Here, the MD notes that the best chance for professional development now is to expand your skills in an IT-related field, adding that combining courses from various fields within IT will dramatically improve a candidate’s employability in future.

“So whether you are in education, business, the media, finance, or any other field, one or more IT short courses will vastly increase your ability to fulfil a diverse number of roles or enable you to start a whole new career entirely, and will therefore increase your future options and ability to diversify or move to a more sustainable role within your organisation,” Liebenberg emphasises.

Looking at different IT roles and the associated short courses that would be of benefit, she has highlighting the following as examples:

  • Web developer – HTML & CSS, JavaScript, HTML5 application development.
  • Data security specialist – Python, data security management, databases.
  • Software engineer – Java, Python, HTML5 application development.
  • Web designer – HTML & CSS, JavaScript, Adobe Illustrator CC 2020.
  • Graphic designer – Adobe Photoshop CC 2020, Adobe InDesign CC 2020, Adobe Illustrator CC 2020.

With unemployment looking as dire in South Africa as it has done in some time, furthering your career is more difficult than ever, which means adding more strings to your bow is a must.

As such short course skill stacking might be the answer in addressing any deficits in your CV.
