Today’s the day: Spider-Man finally arrives in Marvel’s Avengers

As the hype train builds up speed for the release of the No Way Home movie next month, Spider-Man is available in game form today in Marvel’s Avengers.

When the now infamous game launched at the end of last year the public learned that Spider-Man would be added to the game as a free DLC character, but only on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

We didn’t hear anything about this for the longest time until it was announced that Spidey would finally arrive earlier this month.

Not only will players on other platforms be missing out on playing one of the most beloved superheroes of all time, but they will also be locked out of new missions to play through.

“In the Spider-Man: With Great Power Hero Event, Peter Parker partners up with the Avengers to stop AIM from acquiring technology that could make their Synthoid army unstoppable. Spider-Man forms a tentative friendship with Ms. Marvel and Black Widow while learning the new dynamic of working in a team. Our Peter Parker is a conscientious and cautious early-20-something Hero who is still adjusting to balancing his double life as Spider-Man,” reads an official blog.

PlayStation owners who want to jump in the game only for Spider-Man will be happy to know that very little of it needs to be played to access the new character.

“Jumping right into the ‘With Great Power Hero Event’ is simple: just click the option from the War Table within the Avengers Initiative. Spider-Man is a playable Hero from the get-go and requires no unlocking or completion of any campaigns. You’ll be able to take on new Spidey-specific challenges and earn Spider-Man themed rewards to help you and your team in the fight,” a recap of the Marvel’s Avengers War Table states.

The War Table is a series of videos uploaded to the official YouTube channel for the game that gives players insight into new and upcoming content with the latest one available in the embed below.

The Spider-Man section of the War table starts at the 6:57 mark. For those of us not on Sony consoles this is the best we’re going to get.

The final piece of Peter Parker news is paid cosmetics. Each new DLC character that is added to Marvel’s Avengers comes with a slew of paid cosmetics to keep the money rolling into this game.

We recently reported on a Black Friday sale in the game and this has been extended to 2nd December, but this will not include Spider-Man cosmetics.

For those irked by this decision it’s rather par for the course. Read our launch review to see why Marvel’s Avengers is so fundamentally broken and missing out on Spider-Man may not be that big of a deal because the game just isn’t that good.
