The best farming spots for Destiny 2’s The Dawning 2021 cookie ingredients

There are currently three events happening in Destiny 2 at the moment namely, Moments of Triumph, Bungie’s 30th Anniversary and on Tuesday, the festive event The Dawning launched.

This event sees players collecting ingredients and baking cookies for the non-player characters scattered throughout the game at the behest of Savathun Eva Levante. The event runs from 14th December through to 4th January 2022 but with three events on the go it’s best to maximise the time you spend farming.

Aside from the regular ingredients there is also a new event currency in the form of Dawning Spirit. This material can be earned through completing playlist activities, and completing bounties purchased from Eva Levante. This currency is used to obtain upgrades from Eva that can improve snowballs and the perks of The Dawning weapons.

There is however, another way to earn Dawning Spirit. During The Dawning 2020, Bungie set up a community event where players needed to collectively earn Dawning Spirit. To increase generation of this currency, an Exotic Ship, the Starfarer 7M, was made available that increased the drop rate of Dawning Spirit. That perk is still in effect during The Dawning 2021 as of time of publication. This ship can be reacquired from Collections under the Equipment tab and you will have a chance to earn Dawning Spirit whenever other ingredients drop.

The Starfarer 7M will increase the amount of Dawning Spirit you can farm in 2021.

Before we dive into the best farming spots, here are how you earn ingredients.

  • Balanced Flavors – Scout Rifle, Sniper Rifle and Bow final blows
  • Delicious Explosion – Grenade, Rocket Launcher or Grenade Launcher final blows
  • Bullet Spray – SMG, Auto Rifle and Machine Gun final blows
  • Sharp Flavor – Sword final blows
  • Pinch of Light – Collect Orbs of Power
  • Superb Texture – Super final blows
  • Personal Touch – Melee final blows
  • Vex Milk – Vex final blows
  • Taken Butter – Taken final blows
  • Cabal Oil – Cabal final blows
  • Chitin Powder – Hive final blows
  • Dark Ether Cane – Scorn final blows
  • Ether Cane – Fallen final blows
  • Impossible Heat – Solar final blows (weapon and ability)
  • Electric Flavor – Arc final blows (weapon and ability)
  • Null Taste – Void final blows (weapon and ability)
  • Dark Frosting – Stasis final blows (weapon and ability)
  • Finishing Touch – Finisher final blows
  • Multifaceted Flavors – Multiple final blows
  • Perfect Taste – Precision final blows
  • Essence of Dawning – Completing activities

Note that Impossible Heat, Electric Flavour, Null Taste and Dark Frosting have a seemingly low drop rate so be sure to focus on farming these ingredients.

Best farming spots

For each of the activities below we recommend focusing on one particular elemental ingredient. We say this because in our experience these drop far less often than the other ingredients. As such, if you need Null Taste, try to equip Void weapons that will help you earn the other gun-based ingredients as well.

It’s also recommended that you masterwork Eva’s Oven so that the amount of Essence of Dawning needed to create cookies is decreased.

We also recommend running ammo scavenger mods for your Power and Energy weapon and, where possible, use an Exotic Primary weapon. We recommend Traveler’s Chosen with the Catalyst as it unlocks Osmosis which will make the sidearm match your sub-class upon throwing a grenade.

Let’s begin with the Dares of Eternity. This new event introduced as part of the 30th Anniversary is packed with enemies making farming ingredients a bit easier. Of course you can’t focus fully on farming and your loadout still needs to have optimal damage. That having been said, acquiring the Starhorse’s Favour buff during the activity yields constantly regenerating Power ammo so for Sword, Rocket Launcher and Grenade Launcher final blows, this activity is great.

Sticking with new content, the opening of the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon (only available to 30th Anniversary pack owners) has enemies which will spawn constantly until you complete the objective. Avoid completing the objective and you can farm to your heart’s content. Equip scavenger mods because there is no flag to rally to.

Lost Sectors are fast and there are a few that you can breeze through quickly. Our recommendations for Lost Sectors containing specific enemy types follows below:

  • Widows Walk in the EDZ – Fallen
  • Flooded Chasm in the EDZ – Fallen and Cabal
  • Artifact’s Edge on Nessus – Vex
  • Kingship Dock on the Tangled Shore – Scorn
  • Aphelion’s Rest in the Dreaming City – Taken
  • K1 Revelation on the Moon – Hive

We’ve selected the Lost Sectors above because they are easily accessible (with the exception of Aphelion’s Rest) from Transmat Zones and they can be completed very quickly. Alternatively, Legend and Master Lost Sectors also yield as much as 17 Essence of Dawning while giving a chance at an Exotic with a solo completion.

Wrathborn Hunts are great for farming Dawning Spirit because they are fast and relatively easy. While you can do the trick where you reset the Lure while loading into the final boss fight to save materials, we aren’t doing that because we have an abundance of mods for the Lure and we enjoy farming for loot as well.

The Shattered Throne is once again proving to be a great farming spot, or rather, The Thrallway is. Getting to this section requires completing part of the Dungeon but you can likely find a checkpoint on LFG services. The prevailing advice here is that if you do farm The Thrallway, aim to bake Xur’s cookies as you will rack these ingredients up.

We also recommend the Shuro Chi encounter in the Last Wish Raid, especially if you are looking farm for ingredients derived from Power or Special ammo final blows. You can farm final blows here solo but you will be forced to restart the encounter. You can find the wish to get to Shuro Chi here.

Finally, while it may seem strange at first, Battlegrounds are really good for farming given the sheer amount of enemies Bungie drops on players. As these are mainly Cabal focused, your farming is limited but it’s a great place to get weapon final blows for ingredients.

Hopefully all of this helps and you can farm for your god-roll Glacioclasm with Subsistence and Reservoir Burst more efficiently.
