With the 2022 education year ramping up, new students to the University of South Africa (Unisa) have been provided an update about their application.

Prospective students may see one of many statuses which are listed below with a short explanation provided:

  • Results outstanding: Requires that Unisa audit the 2021 year-end final examination results of the current qualification.
  • Current grade 12: Unisa is awaiting the public release of the 2021 Matric results.
  • Enrolment management: Because of certain qualifications’ limited spaces they are subject to enrolment management process and applicants will be informed of placement before the closing date of registration.
  • Application in progress: This application period has seen as high number of applicants and students will be informed of placement before the closing date of registration.

Unisa’s explanations of each status, which have been summarised above, leaves a lot to be desired. The explanations provided in this announcement can be read in full here for those who want slightly more information. It doesn’t help that the announcement repeats itself multiple times.

“You will be informed of the outcome of your application by the closing date of the registration. See www.unisa.ac.za for the registration dates. Kindly note that space to study at Unisa is dependent on the number of available spaces for each qualification,” the message ends.

Outside of the vague nature of these statements some specifics have been provide, albeit for a single qualification.

Those intending to study Bachelor of Arts – qualification code 99311 – have been given a notice about this course.

“Dear Student. Please be informed that we experienced technical glitches with the BA General registrations. The matter has been attended to. However, note that your online registration will need to be verified and processed manually by our staff. It will take a maximum of 2-to-3 weeks to finalize your temporary registration. Thank you for your understanding,” reads the notice signed by the Deputy Registrar.
