Cybertruck reportedly delayed until early 2023 by Tesla

It has been more than two years since Elon Musk and co. first debuted the angular Cybertruck to the world and despite the memes, interest in the latest electric vehicle from Tesla was high.

At the time, Tesla earmarked a 2021 release for the Cybertruck, but now that we’re in 2022 and pre-ordered vehicles have been delivered to customers yet, the release has been revised.

To that end, Reuters is reporting that the Cybertruck will only reach customers in 2023, with an unnamed source close to the project at Tesla confirming the new window.

“You will be able to complete your configuration as production nears,” the official page for the EV now states, having been changed in December of last year from, “You will be able to complete your configuration as production nears in 2022,” The Verge confirmed via archivists.

As for the reason for the delay, as with most manufacturing across the globe, the pandemic has resulted in component shortages and severely impacted supply chains, which is something that Musk noted last year.

“Oh man, this year has been such a supply chain nightmare & it’s not over!,” he tweeted.

He is expected to provide investors with an update on the production roadmap for Tesla during a call later this month on 26th January. When that happens, we should have a clearer idea if the recently reported delay is indeed accurate.

In the interim, for those in countries where Tesla vehicles are sold, we would have said you can buy a Tesla Cyberwhistle to tide you over, but even that quickly sold out.

For now, Tesla has quite the mission on its hands, as other traditional carmakers look to be ramping up their EV production. In the United States specifically, Ford plans to double its production capacity for the F-150 electric pickup truck (bakkie in SA English).
