htxt.africast – Musk buys his way into Twitter

THIS EDITION OF THE AFRICAST IS SPONSORED BY XIAOMI AND THE REDMI NOTE 11 SERIES.

We are firmly in April now as 2022 gets ever older and now there’s a new africast to look back at the last, strange, week of the year.

We’re starting with a recent report which places South Africa in 170th place when it comes to the price of broadband. As the higher the number in this ranking, the worse the pricing, this is a very bad thing and another reminder of the massive problems our country faces when it comes to connectivity.

Next up is LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. We’re currently playing it and will have a review soon, but the sheer size of the game has us working hard. This massive world is both the best thing about the game as well as the worst, with so much to do and so little focus to tie it all together.

Finally for our news section we have AMD and a strange problem recently which saw software automatically overclocking CPUs without asking. While some extra performance may seem fine on paper, the stress this places on power consumption and heat output makes it dangerous.

Our main topic this week, however, is Elon Musk buying his way into Twitter by purchasing a huge number of stocks. He seems to already be affecting change with an edit button seemingly in the works, but we’re not sure what his end game is with this move. As the billionaire spends so much time on the platform he may just want to own a part of it, a classic rich person move, but we’ll have to see what impact if any this has on the average user.
