As we enter the weekend and ready for the end of May next week, the daily figures related to COVID-19 in South Africa continues to see-saw.
This as the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) shows a slight decrease in newly recorded infections compared to the previous day, but fatalities still remains a concern.
As such, it emphasises the importance of the vaccine rollout if the country is to brave future waves of infection during the colder months.
As for the latest figures, the report notes that 3 801 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours, with the total number of infections recorded to date now sitting at 3 944 845.
The department also notes that 49 fatalities have been reported over the past 24 hours, with the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa climbing to 101 092.
Looking at other key figures in the report, the NDoH confirms that the recovery rate has increased to 96.2 percent, with 3 793 500 recoveries reported. Added to this is more than 25.16 million tests having been conducted so far in SA.
Shifting to the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 50 154 jabs administered, with 17 763 of these being booster shots. As of 17:00 on 26th May 2022, a total of 35 959 268 vaccines have been administered across the country.
