Limpopo opens registration for 2023 public schools

Parents and caregivers in Limpopo with children who need to be admitted to public school in 2023 (either for the first time or to move schools), should take note of the opening of registration for next year.

Registrations opened earlier this week, but it was only today that the Department of Basic Education (DBE) shared the news on Twitter.

Between now and 29th July the registrations will be open, but it seems that there’s no direct way to do it online.

“All our schools have been identified as designated areas for collection and submission of admission forms. Parents and legal guardians of qualifying learners are therefore encouraged to immediately collect registration forms from the school nearest to their home, where other siblings are attending or within a feeder zone,” an announcement reads.

Even the Limpopo Department of Education website doesn’t provide a way to get things done digitally.

What it does provide is a list of what is required for parents and caregivers which you can find below.

It also provides recommendation that registration is done as soon as possible as school placement is done on a first come first serve basis.

To register, parents must take the following documents with them:

  • “Birth certificate or acceptable proof of birth date (do not take a baptismal certificate as proof);
  • Immunization card;
  • Transfer card and/or
  • Last report card.”

If you are not a South African citizen, you must also submit the following documents over and above the documents:

  • “Study/work permit;
  • Temporary or permanent residence permit from the South African Department of Home Affairs (DHA) and
  • Evidence that you have applied for permission to stay in South Africa.”
