Loadshedding Stage 2 returns at 17:00 today

There was a slight bit of confusion in the Hypertext office this afternoon when EskomSePush sent out a notification that loadshedding Stage 2 would be in effect from 17:00 to 22:00. This push notification came through before Eskom announced the power cuts which is where the confusion stemmed from.

Whether EskomSePush took a lucky guess or not, it was accurate in its notification as Eskom has now announced that Stage 2 loadshedding would once again be implemented during the evening peak.

“A shortage of generation capacity during the evening peak will require the implementation of Stage 2 loadshedding from 17:00 to 22:00 tonight,” the utility said.

“Last night a unit each at Lethabo Power Station was taken offline for repairs. One generation unit each at Kusile and Tutuka power stations were returned to service,” Eskom added.

The utility goes on to say that it expects to return generation units at Matimba and Tutuka power stations this afternoon. Despite this, there is currently 15 365MW of capacity unavailable due to unplanned failures and 2 379MW of capacity is unavailable due to planned maintenance.

This will be the fourth day in a row where Eskom has implemented Stage 2 loadshedding during the evening peak. We suggest making use of the EskomSePush app in order to stay up to date on loadshedding in your area.
