UPDATE: Local hosting provider Xneelo is experiencing a DDoS attack

UPDATE

Just after 13:00 on Friday afternoon, Xneelo said it had resolved this issue.

Original story

Local web host Xneelo is experiencing connectivity issues this morning and Hypertext has learned via a customer email why this is.

In an email sent to a customer on Friday morning, the hosting provider states that since 06:45 this morning, it has been the target of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack.

Unfortunately, the attack means that Xneelo’s Cape Town and Samrand Data centres are experiencing intermittent connectivity loss and additional load on its servers.

“Our network engineers are currently working on resolving the issue as quickly as possible, and most of our traffic is already routed via our DDoS scrubbing centres,” Xneelo told a customer via an email that was forwarded to Hypertext.

Upon calling Xneelo support, an agent was able to confirm that the email was accurate. There is unfortunately no word on when stability will return to Xneelo’s data centres but we are assured that engineers are working hard to resolve the issue.

For those who make use of Xneelo’s services, we recommend keeping an eye on its Network Status page for updates.

We recommend alerting customers to possible inaccessibility of your web services should you be experiencing problems. Unfortunately DDoS attacks can take some time to resolve so this is very much a waiting game.

We will update this story should there be any major developments.
