Love and Thunder trailer races to 10 million views

After a teaser released last month we finally have a full trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder and people are loving it, at least in terms of the number of views.

At the time of writing the trailer has been live for less than seven hours and has already racked up 10 million views on YouTube alone. Yes it has also been released on other platforms, but YouTube is the gold standard when it comes to more accurate counts and hasn’t been caught inflating numbers like other platforms.

Aside from the general hype around this movie it’s no surprise that there’s so many views already with this trailer giving us a lot to get excited about, most notably Gorr the God Butcher played by Christian Bale who will be the main antagonist for this movie.

Bale and his version of Gorr were noticeably absent from the teaser so fans were expecting to see him here.

This version of the character ditches the alien look which had head tendrils and weird legs in favour of something more akin to a monk. Gorr’s scenes also seem to be very monochromatic as opposed to the rest of the movie which is particularly colourful.

We also get to see All-Black the Necrosword, the source of Gorr’s power. In the comics this sword was granted to Gorr by a being called Knull who created the symbiotes. While Knull may appear we doubt the symbiote connection will as Marvel tries its best to stay away from the Sony movies which don’t feature the Tom Holland Spider-Man.

The rest of the trailer shows quite a lot of the movie and we like the fact that Jane Foster thinks it has only been “three or four years” since she has seen Thor, who points out it has actually been eight. This lines up with the length of the snap (officially the Blip) which lasted for five years. Foster was, canonically, snapped away so it makes sense that she thinks that less time has passed.

The last point we want to mention is more bad CGI. The MCU seems to be on a roll of shoddy visual effects of late. The last theatrical release in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had some noticeably wonky scenes and the first reveal of She-Hulk has been marred by some of the worst effects we’ve seen in a while.

For the Love and Thunder trailer it’s Thor’s helmet which is even used for the thumbnail of the video (see below). It’s very clearly CGI and, in a later part of the trailer (around the one minute, 30 second mark) the helmet for Foster is equally unconvincing.

We’re not sure what’s happening at Marvel Studios, but for the biggest film franchise in history financed by the endless money pits of Disney, this is not a good look.

Going back to Gorr and we’re thankful that his appearance seems to be mostly practical makeup.

And hey, at least the new poster is decent.
