Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability available from 1st June

Sustainability has become a buzzword in recent years, with organisations from a myriad of industries looking at how to improve environmental, social and governance (ESG) capabilities.

With some taking it more seriously than others, Microsoft has announced that its cloud-based offering, Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability, will be available to enterprises aiming to accelerate transformation in this area.

“Microsoft is energised about helping its customers accelerate their progress. Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability solutions will provide the intelligence and data management capabilities organisations need to respond to changes with agility and confidence,” explains the company in a press release sent to Hypertext.

The company adds that this new suite of capabilities will help organisations in a number of areas including the unifying of data intelligence for greater visibility in terms of sustainability efforts and business transformation.

Added to this is the impact that moving workloads to the cloud will represent, with it helping to reduce the impact of IT infrastructure, along with tools like an emissions impact dashboard providing greater transparency.

Microsoft has also highlighted the fact that its growing partner ecosystem can be leveraged to further reduce the environmental impact of operations and potentially a more sustainable value chain, which we have seen severely affected as a result of the pandemic.

“Much of this important work is being achieved through collaboration with Microsoft’s global ecosystem of partners who have helped it land its ambitions and transform its business. Today, they’re also pivotal to helping customers advance sustainability through robust, innovative solutions powered by the Microsoft Cloud,” it concludes.

With a local data centre presence bringing more Microsoft Cloud solutions to the fore in South Africa, it will be interesting to see what the uptake of this Sustainability offering will be like.
