Musk challenges flight attendant to describe what they saw when he allegedly exposed himself

Both Elon Musk and SpaceX are in boiling water this week on the back of allegations that Musk exposed himself to a flight attendant. On SpaceX’s part, the company is said to have paid $250 000 to settle the matter.

According to a report from Business Insider, a flight attendant working on a contract basis for SpaceX’s fleet was propositioned by Musk. The incident reportedly took place in 2016 on a flight to London. The story was brought to light by a friend of the flight attendant as they weren’t made to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

The flight attendant, however, was allegedly made to sign an NDA as part of a settlement agreement that was reached regarding this matter. This is likely why these allegations are coming to light now, so many years after the incident.

The story alleges that Musk exposed his genitals to the flight attendant and promised her gifts if she did more than just massage the SpaceX CEO.

It is then alleged that following her refusal to become sexual with Musk, the flight attendant felt that she was being pushed out and punished for refusing Musk’s advances. At this point she retained a lawyer and eventually a settlement agreement was reached.

On this matter, Musk has said the “wild accusations are utterly untrue”. But then, Musk just had to take it too far.

“But I have a challenge to this liar who claims their friend saw me “exposed” – describe just one thing, anything at all (scars, tattoos, …) that isn’t known by the public. She won’t be able to do so, because it never happened,” the SpaceX CEO tweeted.

There’s just something about asking an alleged victim of sexual abuse to publicly recount what they saw in order to prove themselves that doesn’t sit right with us.

As for why these accusations are coming to light now, the flight attendant’s friend says she felt a responsibility to come forward.

“He is the richest man in the world. Someone with that level of power causing that kind of harm and then throwing some money at the situation, that’s not accountability. There are predators all over the world. But when someone is particularly wealthy and powerful, they literally have systems that are like a machine working for them, to set them up to be able to do whatever they want,” she told Business Insider.

As is the case with these sorts of allegations, questions are being asked about why now. It’s clear that the NDA the flight attendant signed was a cause, but we’d be curious to know if some sort of legal action could be on the cards. Considering this matter was seemingly settled internally, however, that may make pursuing legal action complicated.

SpaceX, which has been sued for sexual harassment in the past told Business Insider it doesn’t comment on settlement matters.

The friend did encourage others who were mistreated by Musk to come forward. Whether more victims will come forward remains to be seen.
