Our first look at Andor is here

With the Obi-Wan Kenobi series starting to stream today on Disney+, we’ve already been given our first look at the next Star Wars show in the form of Andor.

As you may have guessed by the name this will follow the exploits of Cassian Andor, an important member in the Rebels who helped secure the Death Star plans in the 2016 movie Rogue One.

Some still hold Rogue One has their favourite Star Wars movie since the Disney acquisition and we really can’t fault anyone who does given the lacklustre nature of the sequel trilogy and the wet fart that is Solo (2018).

“The ‘Andor’ series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero,” the official description reads.

“Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor and is joined by cast members Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna and Michelle Rejwan. Tony Gilroy is the creator and showrunner.”

In the teaser trailer, which you can watch below, we see the return of Mon Mothma played by O’Reilly.

Outside of characters at around 44 seconds into the teaser we see what looks like Republic Gunships, the famous vehicles from the Clone Wars. This is set far after the Clone Wars so this could be military surplus which has been repurposed by the Empire or some future generation of the same vehicle.

We’re also a bit confused by the strange heptagonal bases which the Empire seems to have built many of out in a body of water. The teaser shows many scenes of what looks like prisoners enslaved by the Empire, so maybe these bases are jails.

Andor begins streaming on 31st August which is also highlighted in a poster revealed for the show.
