Spotify is reportedly letting artists show off their NFT collections

Artist profiles on Spotify allow artists to share more information with their fans, including when they will be on tour as well as links to social profiles.

Now it seems that NFT collections could join those ranks according to a report from Music Ally via The Verge. According to the report, Spotify is running a test with a small group of artists to see how allowing them to display NFT collections on Spotify works for them.

To be clear, the music streaming platform isn’t actually selling NFTs but rather just allowing artists to display them. We have checked our app but can’t find an example of this. However, The Verge checked and found NFT collections being displayed for Steve Aoki and The Wombats.

For now fans can just view the NFTs, but there is reportedly a plan in the works to allow users to click a link that directs to OpenSea to purchase an NFT. On that, Spotify reportedly won’t be taking a commission for NFT sales completed this way.

It really does feel like Spotify is playing it safe when it comes to NFTs by not actually launching a collection but rather directing users to existing services. With that having been said we wouldn’t be surprised to learn Spotify is working on its own sort of collection to sell to fans because that’s trendy these days.

It’s important to point out however, that this is just a test and this feature could never make it to the release version of Spotify.
