Steam Deck replacement parts, guides go live on iFixit

Valve continues its commitment to reparability by working with iFixit to now offer guides and replacement parts, tools and guides.

The landing page for all this content can be found here which contains just about everything you will need to crack into a Steam Deck and get it working again.

The range of replacement parts right now consists of around 20 items ranging from adhesives for just a few Dollars to replacement screens for just under $100.

You can find a full list of these items below ranged from cheapest to most expensive. Click on the link in the price to be taken to the store page.

Two pieces of information are worth mentioning here, however. First is the fact that some prices have a “+” listed after them. This indicates that a more expensive version of the parts are available with your extra money buying you some tools which will help with the repair.

The second note is that many of the items have already sold out but iFixit states that more stock is coming.

“Many Steam Deck parts listings are live, and we’ll have more coming online in the next few weeks. Demand has been very high, and we’ve already sold out of our initial stock of some components—rest assured, more are on the way. Get notified when we’re back in stock by clicking ‘Notify Me’ on any product page,” reads an announcement.

We’re a bit surprised that so many of the replacement parts have already sold out considering the fact that the Steam Deck is still so new and should still be covered by a warranty by Valve.

We have to assume that people are somehow stocking up and trying to get ahead of any future repairs they may need to do in the future. We’re sure many content creators have also bought the parts to make videos and articles with, instead of any real need to make repairs.

Valve has been behind the right to repair and open access to the Steam Deck since before it launched so we’re happy to see this commitment continued – with a partner as great as iFixit – months later.

While the focus of this news has been the Steam Deck, the Valve Index VR headset has also received its own guides and replacement parts, found here.

For those of us in countries still waiting for an official launch of the Steam Deck all of this should mean that when / if it finally arrives the ecosystem around it is mature and repairs are even easier.
