Surprise She-Hulk trailer is here

Usually the release of a trailer for a new Marvel project comes with weeks if not months of rumours, speculation and guess work, but that’s not the case for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law which seemingly dropped out of nowhere.

“She-Hulk, a new comedy series coming to Disney+, stars Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who specializes in superhuman-oriented legal cases,” an official description from the Disney+ Originals website reads.

“She-Hulk will welcome a host of Marvel characters to the series, including the Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo, and the Abomination, played by Tim Roth. The series is directed by Kat Coiro and Anu Valia; Jessica Gao is head writer.

In the trailer we see glimpses of a car crash which could be the origin of She-Hulk. In most arcs of the character Jennifer Walters, cousin to Bruce Banner, is involved in an accident and the only way she can be saved is with a blood transfusion from Banner that turns her into She-Hulk.

Later in the trailer we also see what appears to be her first transformation next to a car, so maybe she already has her superpowers by the time that accident happens.

Ruffalo is back as “Professor Hulk”, the version of the Hulk we saw in Endgame where Banner uses the time after the snap to bring the brains of Banner together with the strength of the Hulk.

Interestingly this doesn’t really line up with the post credits scene of Shang-Chi, in which Banner is back in his regular human form.

What does line up with Shang-Chi is the new appearance of Abomination which is more comic accurate compared to how he looked all the way back in the 2008 Incredible Hulk movie. He also see Tim Roth for a second which is nice, as only the CGI monster version of Abomination appeared in Shang-Chi.

A character we didn’t expect to see is Frog-Man who pops up at the 1:23 mark in the trailer. Hopefully this show will give us a look at several smaller characters that are silly. We’d kill to see Big Wheel here.

Aside from the trailer we also have a new poster for the show – see it here – which seems to show She-Hulk on some courthouse steps.

Overall this first proper look at the character is a good one even if the CGI is a bit wonky. We have to wonder just how much screen time the transformed, full CGI version of the titular character will be on screen. Disney does have endless money but it’s much cheaper to just have the actress on set as normal.

She-Hulk will be available on Disney+ from 17th August.
