The worst levels of Rogue Legacy 2 have been improved

After launching out of Early Access in late April, Rogue Legacy 2 is still being improved upon with developer and publisher Cellar Door Games issuing a new patch which will help players through the most difficult levels of the game.

Those levels are the Sun Tower and Pishon Dry Lake, both of which can honestly be rather obvious to play through.

The Sun Tower relies on players doing a lot of difficult platforming while also avoid enemy projectiles with failure resulting in a long fall, loss of HP and a lot of annoyance. The platforming is also made more difficult by “windmills”, giant rotating wrecking balls that need to be used to progress by spin kicking off of them.

Pishon Dry Lake is mostly pitch black with the only visible area slightly around the player character. The intention of this biome is to use giant tuning forks to get a better lay of the land, but the darkness lead to a lot of unjustifiable damage from enemies you simply can’t see.

Patch v1.0.2 for the game, which is live right now, improves on both.

“As you venture deeper into the depths of Rogue Legacy 2, the challenge expectedly creeps up to match. What we didn’t want though, was a sudden wall of difficulty that gamers slam into and could not overcome. That appears to be the case for some of the later biomes, so we’re taking another look at biome difficulty scaling,” reads an announcement.

“The Sun Tower is now more forgiving with easier to hit (and harder to get hit by) windmills, reduced platforming struggles, and a sweet gold bonus. The Pishon Dry Lake is also now brighter, and enemies that are dashing towards the player off-screen are highlighted with an icon similar to incoming projectiles (no more cheap shots!),”

That Sun Tower gold bonus is 20 percent which should mean more money for players to buy upgrades and an easier time overall.

As for Pishon Dry Lake we’re less excited about the change as the light radius has only increased between six and eight percent depending the situation.

Patch v1.0.2 changes a lot more for the game and it’s almost all buffs – check out the patch notes here. It’s a common sentiment (that we share) where game elements should be buffed to improve things instead of nerfed, and we’re happy to see Cellar Door Games sharing this sentiment.

We recommend the below fantastic video on the topic from fighting game YouTube channel Core-A Gaming. Rogue Legacy 2 isn’t a fighting game and isn’t multiplayer, but many of the same sentiments carry over.
