Unisa invites all those researching distance education

Today the University of South Africa (Unisa) has put out a call for students from all universities to participate in its ODeL Postgraduate Consortium on distance education.

The consortium focuses on Open Distance and e-Learning (ODeL), Open Distance Learning (ODL), Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) and Open Educational Resources (OER).

“Conferences are not only platforms to promote and create awareness about ODL provision, but they are also aimed at strengthening the capacity of emerging researchers, academics and institutions to improve the quality of education delivery. In the spirit of growing sustainable capacity development in ODL-related fields, the 2022 Open Distance and eLearning Virtual Conference will provide a platform for postgraduate students to present their work through the Postgraduate Consortium stream,” writes Professor Sindile Ngubane, Acting Chair of Department, Institute for Open Distance Learning at Unisa.

The professor is looking to have between 10 and 20 presentations on the subject matter that will be around 20 minutes long. Those who wish to participate should prepare a submission following strict guidelines which are available here.

While the invite goes out to students from all universities, applicants still need to meet certain criteria:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled at any university. Therefore, they must not have earned a master’s or doctoral degree, nor have officially submitted their thesis.
  • Submissions must address the master’s/doctoral by means of a specific research proposal and should include some preliminary work that has been done.
  • Submissions must be made by a single author and should include a statement by the student’s advisor/supervisor, indicating the benefit that the student would derive from attending the ODeL Postgraduate Consortium.

The two dates to take note of for applications to the programme are 31st May 2022 when proposal submissions close and 21st June 2022 when notifications will go out about acceptance of proposals. The event itself is then planned to take place between 3rd and 5th August 2022.
