Cyberpunk 2077 board game is being Kickstarted

We have come full circle: Cyberpunk 2077, a game based on a table top roleplaying experience, has itself been turned into a different kind of table top product in the form of a board game.

Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City is a board game now on Kickstarter that is being made by CD Projekt and CMON. The latter company here is one that publishes several physical titles including those with external IPs like Marvel, Bloodborne, God of War and more.

“Gangs of Night City is a competitive game in which 1 to 4 players take on the role of ruthless gangs vying for control of the underground in the glittering hellhole that is Night City. Clash with other Gangs in the meat or on the Net, as your enterprising band of toughs seeks to gain dominance over the criminal underworld that rules the streets. Only the boldest will be remembered, and your Street Cred will pave your way to the to,” reads the official description.

The Kickstarter went live a few hours ago and has already surpassed its $100 000 goal. At the time of publication it has garnered $279 503 from 3 735 backers.

If you want to be one of those backers the only way to do so is at the $110 (~R1 759) tier called the “Edgerunner Pledge” which unlocks the board game core box, all extra rewards / stretch goals and an Edgerunner based on V.

That price should be considered against rather hefty shipping fees, even for those in countries and territories which usually expect reduced or free even free delivery.

The breakdown of shipping costs can be found here and, for those of us in South Africa, the delivery fee is hilariously high at $125 – $144 (~R1 998 – R2 301).

We understand that board games are large and delicate items that can be a nightmare to deliver but we have to imagine that this price will turn most people away from the project.

That being said past CMON board games have turned into retail products that you can now easily buy at local stores. The aforementioned Bloodborne card game, for example, is freely available in South Africa.

Those who want to see more of the game, and potentially pledge, can check out the Kickstarter page here.

There’s a trailer, embedded below, to create some hype for the project. You don’t see much of the board game itself, however, as the trailer is made up of scenes from the videogames cut with 3D renders of the board game pieces.
