Day-time loadshedding returns at 10:00 on Wednesday

We had a good run folks. After many weeks of Eskom limiting loadshedding to the evening peak, the wheels have now come off and we’re returning to loadshedding at all times of the day.

Starting at 10:00 on Wednesday morning, Stage 2 loadshedding will be in effect until midnight. From Thursday, Stage 2 loadshedding will be in effect from 05:00 in the morning until midnight. This will continue through until at least Sunday.

“Due to the breakdown of four generation units this morning contributing to the capacity constraints, Eskom regrets to announced that Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented from 10:00 until midnight,” the utility wrote in a power alert.

“A generation unit each at Kendal and Matimba, as well as two units at the Matla Power Station broke down this morning. This reduced generation capacity by 2 400MW, adding to the ongoing capacity constraints,” Eskom added.

As of time of writing 3 630MW of capacity is unavailable due to planned maintenance while 15 277MW is unavailable due to unplanned maintenance.

As always, we recommend making use of the EskomSePush app for Android and iOS devices to plan your week and weekend ahead accordingly.
