GDE lays out 5 steps for Grade 1 & 8 online admissions

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has provided more information about the upcoming online admissions / applications for grade one and grade eight students.

The application period begins next month on 22nd July and will run until 19th August but, due to limited spots and a desire for parents to get through the process as quickly as possible, this type of advice has slowly been released over the last few weeks.

The five steps of the application process, according to the GDE, are as follows:

  • Registration of Parent / Guardian Details
  • Registration of Home Address Details
  • Registration of Learner Details
  • Apply to a Minimum of 3 Schools and a Maximum of 5 Schools
  • Having Certified Copies of Required Documents and Upload them to the System OR Submit them physically only to the schools chosen when applying

The last step, the requirement of documents, may be a big hurdle to overcome due to the fact that they must be certified.

Many people already know that documents can be certified by the South African Police Service (SAPS) at a police station. Thankfully, however, there are a few alternatives such as lawyers or accountants which the SAPS provides here.

When online admissions open on 22nd July parents and guardians can start the process at exactly 08:00. The website to apply is available here but, at the time of publication, it is down and displaying a 403 error.
