Honor Magic4 Pro available in South Africa tomorrow for R22 999

Teased for launch in South Africa in recent weeks, last night Honor held an event to mark the local arrival of its latest flagship phone – the Magic4 Pro – to our shores.

The new device is set to go on sale tomorrow, 10th June, with Honor bringing the Cyan and Black colour options to SA. The Magic4 Pro is recommended to retail for R22 999 for the 8GB RAM/256GB storage option.

In terms of networks Honor confirmed in a statement to Hypertext that, “Consumers can buy the latest premium flagship via Vodacom with a contract deal of R999 for 24 months with 1GB REDCORE and HONOR Earbuds 3 Pro as gift and via MTN with a contract deal of R999 for 24 months which comes with Mega Talk and Gigs XS.”

The company also highlighted the fact that its new devices work completely with Google Mobile Services, noting that it is fully committed to the Android ecosystem since its split from Huawei.

In the year since that happened, we have reviewed a handful of mid-range Honor devices and been impressed with the offerings, such as the X8. Now it will be interesting to see how one of the company’s flagship phones performs.

A quick look at the specs on offer seem promising, with a 6.81″ OLED panel present that delivers a 2848×1312 resolution, as well as an octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor serving up 5G connectivity too.

Added to this is a trio of large megapixel lenses on the rear – 50MP wide-angle, 50MP ultra-wide and 64MP telephoto. Last worth mentioning is a 4 500mAh battery that supports 100W supercharging, offering 50 percent battery from 15 minutes of charging.

If you are intrigued by the brand, some wearables are also on the way for the third quarter of 2022, with a smartwatch and pair of wireless earbuds slated for release soon.

With a number of Chinese phone makers entering SA of late, Honor is the latest vying for a sizeable market share. To that end, president for the MEA region at Honor, Likun Zhao, ambitiously said that Honor is aiming to be the number one smartphone vendor in SA in three years time.

Given Zhao almost achieved the feat during his tenure at Huawei before US sanctions hit the company, it will be interesting to see if Honor can manage it.
