Where once digital skills involved simply learning how to use the Microsoft Office suite and calling it a day, there is a growing need for proper technical education and training.

To address this mLab is working with the Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA) to introduce a number of ICT-related interventions. These interventions will equip South Africans with skills to respond to the needs and demands of the future.

While there are no details as of right now this is because the memorandum of understanding between the two entities was signed on Monday. With that having been said, the projects the pair will work on include:

• Accredited skills training
• Ecosystem building
• Workforce development programs
• Public policy

“The agreement between the two parties brings South Africa closer to the National Development plan; Vision 2030,” explains Nicky Koorbanally, chief executive officer at mLab. “It is set to boost the economy, reduce unemployment, increase investment and combat inequalities by upskilling and reskilling South Africans to keep up with the rapidly changing labour market.”

To ensure that is skills academy are as accessible to as many people as possible, mLab has academies in Tembisa, Tshwane, Soweto, Polokwane and Kimberly.

“We also run programmes in other Southern African markets and able to provide access to international opportunities for programme participants,” the firm said.

We’re very keen to see what this partnership brings to the table and given that it extends through to 31st March 2024, we’re expecting great things from MICT SETA and mLab.
