The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G takes Note inspiration to the next level

When Samsung first announced the Galaxy Note in 2011, it was a watershed moment in the smartphone space.

Termed a phablet at the time, the Galaxy Note has since inspired other companies to go with larger displays, making it the norm now, but one element that has separated the Note series from its peers is the S Pen stylus.

A tool to revolutionise multitasking and productivity on your smartphone, the S Pen remains the hallmark of the Galaxy Note series and still sets the standard.

Or rather, it did, with Samsung once again breaking new ground in the smartphone space and integrating the functionality of the S Pen into the company’s latest flagship phone – the Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G.

In recent years the Ultra moniker has been used by Samsung to denote a mobile device that is without compromise and the S22 Ultra, the story is no different. To that end, the S22 Ultra features the best in-class processor, display, battery and camera array, which coupled with a newly engineered S Pen, delivers the best possible experience on mobile.

Inspired by the Note series, here is why the new Galaxy S22 Ultra takes things to the next level.

Starting of course with the aforementioned S Pen, which is the most advanced that Samsung has developed to date, it boasts a drastic 70 percent lower latency, allowing for writing and drawing to feel more natural.

Added to this is the ability to launch features normally associated with the Note series, such as being able to quickly launch specific scribing apps and using the stylus as a remote for your phone’s camera.

Next is what you are writing on, with the S22 Ultra 5G featuring a large and expansive 6.8″ Edge QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display that delivers a rich resolution of 3080×1440.

This coupled with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz means visually dense content looks supremely smooth, not to mention the addition of an eye comfort shield and vision booster to assist when working for longer periods.

Supporting 100 percent Mobile Colour Volume of the DCI-P3 range, along with a peak brightness of 1750 nits, the contrast between dark and light aspects in digital content is vastly improved on this latest device from Samsung.

The display is not the only element to have received attention on this latest iteration of flagship phone, with the camera array arguably being the best on a Samsung smartphone to date.

A whopping 108MP wide-angle camera is found on the rear as the primary option, which is supported by a 12MP ultra-wide and a pair of 10MP telephoto lenses that serve up 3x and 10x zoom respectively.

It is not simply about throwing as many megapixels as possible to the photography experience either, with professionals happy to find out that the S22 Ultra 5G supports the exclusive access to the Expert RAW app, which features a comprehensive suite of in-camera editing tools to deliver a DSLR-like experience.

Lastly, what are all these powerful features for without a battery to aid them. Here Samsung has ensured its consumers are well catered for, as the Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G has a substantial 5 000mAh unit powering it. This mammoth battery ensures you are sipping on power for a full day’s use and then some.

On those rare occasions when a bit more juice is needed in a hurry, the S22 Ultra supports 45W fast charging, which is a significant improvement on the 25W option offered on the previous iteration of Ultra. As such, the big battery is well supported.

Yielding class-leading performance in every category, the Galaxy S22 Ultra 22 is indeed Samsung’s pinnacle in mobile devices to date. To find out how to purchase one of your own, or any other the new Galaxy S22 series in South Africa, head here.
