Twitter is reportedly getting a long-form content feature

Long known as a micro-blogging social media platform, Twitter’s reputation could change if it does indeed implement a new feature that is rumoured to be in the works.

That feature is called Twitter Notes, according to a report from TechCrunch, and it could bring long form content to Twitter. Yes, we know threads are a sort of long form content, but they are incredibly unwieldy to navigate through.

The feature is reportedly being tested among a small group of users and while Twitter won’t confirm this, there is extensive evidence to suggest the feature is not only real, but nearing release as well.

Citing mobile product intelligence firm Watchful.ai, TechCrunch reports that the Twitter Notes feature was found to be ready for launch in the latest version of the Twitter app.

However, there is also the Elon Musk-shaped cloud hanging over Twitter to contend with.

The state of flux the firm is in given Musk’s “Will he or won’t he” dance with Twitter’s acquisition doesn’t make for a conducive environment to launch new features. We have to think that releasing a feature like this would draw the billionaire’s ire unless he was privy to its launch ahead of time of course.

With that having been said, long form content on Twitter would be great. Many companies use the platform to announce new products and Twitter Notes could serve as a great tool marketers can add to their kit. Of course, Twitter wouldn’t be the first to introduce a blogging feature to its platform.

Facebook Notes used to be a way to share long form content on the platform only, very few people used it. So few in fact that the feature was retired in 2020.

Twitter Notes is reportedly set to launch in the next few weeks. We doubt it will be a turning point for the platform. We will of course be happy to eat our words if the thing that Twitter needed all along was more words, but we very much doubt that.
