Unisa forced to postpone exams due to loadshedding

The University of South Africa (Unisa) has today had to postpone examinations due to loadshedding affecting servers which house the exam papers and infrastructure.

“Muckleneuk area is experiencing power outage challenges this morning. This has affected the Unisa data and server. Users might be experiencing access challenges to Unisa’s online platforms. Officials are currently addressing the challenges. Our apologies for the inconvenience,” the university writes.

“We are aware that our students cannot login to their exam sites which are affected by electricity supply issues to our datacentre. Affected exams will be rescheduled and students notified accordingly. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

Earlier today loadshedding was advanced from stage 2 to stage 4 meaning that more of the country will be left with more hours of loadshedding. Stage 4 has been implemented until midnight tonight, but there is the fear that this will last into the weekend making for an even colder few days for South Africans.

Back to Unisa and on Twitter, where the above announcement was made, many students are still unsure of the situation, such as how this affects exams which are scheduled to be written later this afternoon.

As usual there is very little communication from Unisa past the initial statements about the postponement. Hopefully students still unclear about the situation will be filled in with more information as the situation progresses.
