Valve hypes up Steam Next Fest with a promise of badges

In today’s news of “Valve remembers its YouTube account password” there’s a new trailer for the upcoming latest edition of Steam Next Fest which promises that players can earn badges.

For those who have somehow missed all the Next Fest events over the last few years, this is a site-wide event on Steam with a focus on actually playing games with countless free demos.

Valve hopes that players will, after enjoying the demo, buy the game outright or at least add it to their wishlist to do so when the game launches.

Valve has reported a lot of success with past editions so it’s no surprise that it’s happening again, this time between 13th and 20th June.

As for the badges the trailer states that they will be available for playing one, five and 10 demos. This is a new feature of the event and it will be interesting to see if more people play more demos with the reward of a badge or two.

Recently Valve seems to only use YouTube to hype up sales and events like this with the last one being a similar promotion for the Steam Racing Fest.

A full list of the games featured in the trailer, in alphabetical order, can be found below:

  • Arksync
  • BROK the InvestiGator
  • Cult of the Lamb
  • Daydream Forgotten Sorrow
  • Exophobia
  • Foretales
  • Gestalt Steam Cinder
  • Glimmer in Mirror
  • Harmonys Odyssey
  • King of the Hat
  • LEGO Bricktales
  • Misc. A Tiny Tale
  • Nine Sols
  • Eyes in the Dark
  • Fays Factory
  • Ghost Song

Out of these we’re most excited by Exophobia. This boomer shooter won us over with its interesting art style (see the header image above) which kind of reminds us of the Game Boy Color days. Interestingly it already has a demo available so you can play it without waiting for the Next Fest, though you may want to wait to get a badge.
