4 Destiny 2 Exotic weapons are getting Anti-Champion perks

Champions were introduced into Destiny 2 with the launch of the Shadowkeep expansion. These enemies force players to equip armour mods that can pierce their armour.

At present there are three types of Champion: Barrier, Overload and Unstoppable with each requiring an associated mod to deal with. Since the introduction of Champions, Bungie has been adding intrinsic perks to Exotics to give them a bit more utility against these enemies.

In the This Week at Bungie update, the developer revealed that four more weapons will receive intrinsic anti-Champion perks.

These weapons are:

  • Le Monarque – Added intrinsic Overload to Poison Arrows (Note: the bow must be fully drawn to activate Poison Arrows)
  • Thunderlord – Added intrinsic Overload
  • Malfeasance – Added intrinsic Unstoppable to explosions (this means landing five consecutive shots on a Champion in order to activate the explosion).
  • Wish-ender – Added intrinsic Anti-Barrier. Damage against Champions, majors and minibosses has been increased by 10 percent.

We’re bummed to see that no Exotic sniper rifles have been given anti-Champion mods. As we mentioned in June, these weapons are in a terrible spot at the moment in both PvE and PvP and being able to deal with Champions intrinsically may have put them back on the map.

It is surprising to see Thunderlord on this list. At the moment, machine guns aren’t the first choice for damage. Hell, filling an exotic slot with a machine gun for end-game content when rocket launchers and linear fusion rifles exist just feels like a mistake.

With that having been said, we’re going to be pulling all of these weapons from collections just in case they turn out to be cracked when these changes arrive in Season 18.
