Donate books to get cheaper LEGO in South Africa

LEGO stores in South Africa are running a promotion to coincide with Women’s Month this August where shoppers can get cheaper LEGO and even a free book.

To explain the promotion we spoke to Robert Greenstein, co-founder of Great Yellow Brick (Pty) Ltd, the exclusive license holders for the LEGO Certified Stores in the country.

“The book donation promotion is a very exciting initiative. Michelle Nkamankeng is a young South African girl who made history by becoming the youngest African author at the age of 7 years old and featured on the Worlds Top 10 Young Writers list. She has teamed up with LEGO to help inspire creativity and is one of the LEGO Explorer Ambassadors,” Greenstein tells us.

“To promote this initiative, the LEGO Certified Stores are running two campaigns. The first is offering one of her books as a Gift With Purchase with purchases over R1000 on either LEGO City, LEGO Friends or LEGO classic themes. The second initiative is a book drive to collect second hand books. Customers of the LEGO Certified Stores are invited to drop off their unused books at any branch and they will receive 100 Brick Reward points for each book they donate. Terms and conditions apply to both initiatives. Please follow our social media platforms for more information.”

To give you an idea of how these points can be used, 5 000 of them unlocks a R250 voucher as a discount towards your next purchase, or a free set that’s exclusive to the stores and can’t be had anywhere else.

Double that to 10 000 points for a R500 voucher or an even bigger free set. More points past this unlock bigger vouchers too.

This means you can get yourself quite a substantial price reduction or even some completely free sets, something donators are already enjoying as Greenstein tells us some customers have donated more than 100 books at once already.

For those unfamiliar with LEGO in South Africa, this promotion is exclusive to Certified Stores and can’t be found in any other stores that happen to stock plastic bricks.

Right now there are four of these stores around South Africa in Sandton CityMenlyn Park in Pretoria, Canal Walk in Cape Town and Gateway in Durban. The shop details can be found here.

A fifth shop is also opening in the Mall of Africa in October.
