Netflix going ahead with Volume Four of Love Death + Robots

In May, Volume Three of Netflix’s acclaimed Love Death + Robots landed on the streaming platform, serving up another anthology of 10 to 20-minute long animated features highlighting the efforts of talented creators and studios.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, given how much commercial and critical success the three volumes have garnered to date for Netflix, Volume Four has been given the go ahead, according to an announcement on Netflix Geeked Instagram page.

Unfortunately we do not have a date, nor a timeframe for this upcoming Volume, but it shows that Netflix does indeed still care for some of the smaller/indie projects in its catalogue.

We are assuming that much of this is because director David Fincher (Se7en, Gone Girl, Social Network) has helmed Love Death + Robots from the beginning as a producer and assisted in pushing the boundaries in terms of bringing interesting stories to the fore in different mediums with this animated anthology series.

Added to this is the continued critical success that some of the one-shot episodes have received, with Oscar-winning director Alberto Mielgo getting an Emmy nomination for his episode in Volume Three – Jibaro.

This latest Volume also received a further two nominations and for Volume Four, the aforementioned Fincher will return as producer.

While we await news on when Volume Four will land on Netflix, we recommend watching a behind-the-scenes video on the making of Jibaro in the video below, which is easily one of the more visceral episodes in Love Death + Robots to date.

All three volumes come highly recommended, especially if you are on the lookout for smaller or indie animation studios to keep tabs on. Here’s hoping some of them get green lit by Netflix to do fully fledged series too.
