SEACOM teams up with BT to expand service offering in Africa

ICT infrastructure owner SEACOM has announced a partnership with BT (British Telecommunications) that will see it offering a myriad new services.

Details of the partnership are still thin on the ground this morning, but according to a press release, “SEACOM will be leveraging BT’s services, vendor relationships and global expertise to expand its portfolio of services aimed at African businesses”.

“We’re excited to form this strategic alliance with BT and see the combined value of what we bring to our respective markets. With SEACOM’s global network and local presence, and BT’s global reach and expertise, we will be able to deliver a comprehensive portfolio of Cloud, security, and connectivity services that are reliable, scalable, and at the cutting-edge of industry,” SEACOM’s chief executive officer, Oliver Fortuin added in a statement.

Among the solutions that will be made accessible to SEACOM customers is BT’s Cloud Security Incident Event Management platform. This gives businesses real-time visibility and monitoring across its entire IT environment. This should make for an ideal security overlay to SEACOM’s existing ICT solution portfolio.

“We are thrilled to deliver BT’s world-class solutions to SEACOM and to their customers across the African continent. The areas of secure multi-cloud connectivity, next-generation networking solutions and collaboration services are the sweet spot where SEACOM and BT will combine their respective strengths,” said director of system integrators and telecom service providers at BT’s Global unit, Alessandro Adriani.

Earlier this year SEACOM announced it would acquire EOH Network Solutions and Hymax, divisions of iOCO.

That acquisition was approved by the Competition Commission in July according to ITWeb, and it is set to be finalised in September with the first day of the month signalling the first day of operations under the SEACOM banner.
