Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G lands in SA for R20k

  • The Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G features a unibody design in Glazed Green and Glazed Black.
  • It features a 6.7″ AMOLED display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate.
  • The big focus is on imaging, with 4K Ultra HDR Video and Night Portait photography.

Oppo is bringing a new premium mid-range phone to South Africa in the form of the Reno 8 Pro 5G. The device was officially launched at a local event this evening and will be the company’s latest offering.

While it is not a fully fledged flagship phone, as Oppo South Africa continues to hold off on bringing such devices to our shores for now, there is still about the Reno 8 Pro 5G to pique the interest of local Android phone fans.

Along with sporting support for 5G connectivity thanks to its octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX chipset, Oppo says this new device places a lot of focus on imaging, utilising two high-end Sony lenses for the front and rear respectively.

To that end, up front is a Sony IMX709 32MP sensor and on the rear is a Sony IMX766 50MP lens as the main shooting option. This is paired with an ultra wide-angle and macro option on the rear to complete a trio of lenses on the array.

Added to the hardware, Oppo has added a bit more power to the image processing thanks to a MariSilicon X NPU. This piece of silicon can handle up to 18 trillion operations per second and assists with features like 4K Ultra Night Video, enhanced Portait Modes, Hyperlapse videos and 90fps slow-motion shots.

As for other key elements, a 6.7″ AMOLED display is up front, delivering a FullHD (2412×1080) resolution and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. On the memory front, 8GB RAM is present and 256GB internal storage. There is also a 4 500mAh battery powering the phone, with 80W fast charging on offer too.

Last worth mentioning is the design, with a polished unibody used for the Reno 8 Pro 5G and Glazed Green or Glazed Black the two colour options.

Those wanting to pick up this new phone can do so from 1st October locally, with the recommended price tag sitting at R19 999.
