  • The event will be marked by a number of special circumstances, like a flyby by the national airforce.
  • Ramaphosa is set to take his oath of office at 11:25.

Today the Presidential Inauguration of President-Elect Cyril Ramaphosa will take place at the Union Buildings in Tshwane, Gauteng. According to the official programme, the welcome remarks by Naledi Pandor and Nomvula Mokonyane will take place at 11:00 which is the official commencement time of the ceremony.

The event follows the election of Ramaphosa as President of the Republic of South Africa following the first sitting of Parliament last week. Ramaphosa and his ANC party had to establish a grand coalition with at least five other political parties, including former rivals the Democratic Alliance (DA) to form a government.

Ramaphosa is set to take the oath of office at 11:25. The President is then expected to announce his cabinet in the following days, which will be formed of ministers from the ANC’s coalition allies.

The Presidential Inauguration will see a number of delegates and heads of states from many countries in Africa and around the world, and already confirmed to be attending are the Presidents of Zimbabwe, Namibia, Angola, Congo, Tanzania and others.

South Africans will be able to watch a live stream of the Presidential Inauguration live from the official YouTube channel of the SABC, the national broadcaster. There will also be backup livestreams from other news sources, like CNN and the BBC.

The inauguration will be quite a special event, which will include a flyover by the South African airforce, a 21-gun salute and a performance from the Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra.
