Motorola Razr Plus 2024 leaks and it has an edge over the Z Flip

  • The 2024 version of the Motorola Razr Plus has been leaked in a likely promotional video.
  • The video shows us that it has a larger front-facing screen with more features than the Samsung Z Flip5, a competitor the Razr aspires towards.
  • Information also leaked includes that the device has an AI-powered telephoto zoom and IPX8 water resistance.

The latest foldable smartphone from Motorola, the Motorola Razr Plus has been revealed in a leaked promotional video posted to X by leaker and LeBlanc fan @MysteryLupin. The video is clearly an-almost ready to be revealed marketing reel featuring the device and contains a swathe of information.

From the video, which you can watch in the embedded Tweet below, we have learned a few details about the upcoming device.

This includes the aesthetics of the device, which are reminiscent of the Z Flip series from Samsung, a carry-over of the 2023 edition of the Motorola Razr. But like the latest Z Flip, the Razr Plus has a much larger external screen, and in fact, it is larger than the Z Flip5‘s external screen according to the leaked material.

And also unlike the Z Flip, the external screen can be used as a normal mobile device, and is not just relegated to widgets like the Samsung foldable. This includes apps like Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and more.

We also know that it has an IPX8 water resistance rating, however, this does mean that it loses the IP53 rating of the previous incarnation which was also rated for dust resistance. The 2024 Razr Plus then likely does not have the same dust resistance, but improved water resistance.

While aesthetically, and in terms of screens, the Razr Plus has an advantage over the latest Z Flip foldable, we have to wait for more details about the internal specifications and hardware. What we can say is that the 2024 Razr Plus will likely be much cheaper than the Samsung device.

The leak also shows that the device has an “AI-powered telephoto zoom” without showing more details on the twin-back camera setup.

We also get to see some of the colourways for the device, which include a navy blue, a leaf green and a maroonish, pinkish red colour. We won’t have to wait too long for more concrete details as the device is set to be launched next week, 25th June 2024.

While some Motorola smartphones are sold locally, like the Moto G13, the Razr Plus series of Motorola foldables is not yet available in South Africa and will likely not be heading here for some time. In terms of price, the 2023 version of the Motorola Razr Plus, the previous incarnation, retails for $999 (~R18 000).
