Delivery service Pudo hikes its prices

  • The Courier Guy’s Pudo service has increased prices in two of its delivery sizes.
  • The L size is now R80 while the XL size is now R100.
  • While it hasn’t said why it increased its prices, the hike is likely to continue capitalising on the popularity of the service.

Parcel delivery and smart locker service Pudo sent out an email on Tuesday to customers, informing them of changes to its prices. The Courier Guy operated service has increased prices for both the L and XL parcel sizes, with the latter seeing a R40 price increase – a 67 percent hike.

In the email, Pudo simply says about the price hike, “Once in a while, we need to increase our rates. This is one of those times.” No other explanation was given. The full breakdown of the new prices can be seen below with L hiked by R20 and XL hiked by R40.

Previous to this price increase, all sizes for locker to locker or locker to Kiosk deliveries were capped at R60 no matter the size.

Pudo has long been an affordable and quick method to send parcels, growing in popularity since launching in 2020. It offers convenience to users, requiring only an app to book deliveries to lockers and no sign-up or applications required.

The service says it will send parcels to lockers within one to four business days. Since the price of fuel in South Africa has and is expected to continue falling thanks to helpful international conditions, and the Rand continues its favourable trajectory against the US Dollar, the latest Pudo price increase is likely to capitalise on the popularity of the service.

Since The Courier Guy is still a private company, we won’t know exactly how well the service is doing, but Pudo is available in Japan and Latin America outside of South Africa. In South Africa, the service has hundreds upon hundreds of lockers, covering most urban zones and concentrating in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.
