Samsung’s latest wearables are the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Watch7

  • Samsung has debuted two new smartwatches at Galaxy Unpacked this afternoon.
  • The new addition takes the form of a rugged offering called the Galaxy Watch Ultra.
  • Both models are set to land in South Africa.

Samsung hosted its latest Galaxy Unpacked event this afternoon, with the South Korean firm kicking things off with its fitness and health-focused wearables. To that end, three new devices were showcased – the Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch Ultra, and Galaxy Watch7.

The Ring got a lot of attention, but this device is not slated for release in South Africa in 2024. The two new smartwatches, however, are coming to SA, with recommended pricing already shared by Samsung Mobile SA.

So what are the new wrist-bound wearables serving up?

Staring with the Watch Ultra, it is designed to be a more rugged offering within the company’s smartwatch lineup. As such, it looks made for high performance and harsh conditions, and certainly seems to be aimed at competing with Apple’s Ultra model.

“Premium capabilities built for extreme durability enable you to push limits and go further with a Titanium Grade 4 frame and 10ATM water resistance. Additionally, Galaxy Watch Ultra operates at a wider range of altitudes, from 500 meters below sea level to 9,000 meters high for tracking advanced fitness experiences like swimming in the ocean to cycling in extreme environments,” highlights Samsung of the Watch Ultra.

As for the Watch7, it appears to have more features geared towards wellbeing, all in a smaller and slimmer body than its Ultra brethren.

“In addition to the new advanced AI algorithm for sleep analysis, Galaxy Watch7 offers the De Novo FDA-authorized Sleep Apnea feature, providing a simple, proactive tool to check potential signs of sleep apnea. Receive real-time readings and alerts for abnormally high or low heart rates with Heart Rate monitoring, detect irregular heart rhythms suggestive of atrial fibrillation (AFib) with IHRN (Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification), and get a deeper understanding of your heart health with Electrocardiogram (ECG) and Blood Pressure (BP) monitoring,” notes Samsung of the Watch7.

Although an official launch date has not been confirmed at the time of writing, pricing is known, with the Watch Ultra starting at R19 999, and the Watch7 from R6 999.
