Software development academy WeThinkCode _ (WTC) has announced that as many as 360 students will graduate this year, the largest cohort to pass through the institution since it was established in 2016.
The 2024 class is comprised of 181 women and 179 men and so far 199 of these students have already secured internships, the majority of which extend beyond six months.
This, the academy says, illustrates the demand for WTC graduates in the local tech industry.
“We are exceptionally proud of this cohort, as they represent the largest graduating class in WeThinkCode_’s history, showcasing the programme’s growing impact and success in developing skilled software development talent,” said Kelebogile Motlhamme, Operations Director at WeThinkCode_.
The distribution of graduates this year includes 214 from Johannesburg, 74 from Durban, and 72 from Cape Town. To date, a total of 1,468 students have completed the programme, with 86 percent placed into employment since. Leading hiring partners of the 2024 graduates include BBD, MTN, Naagaro, Vodacom, and ABSA.
WTC made headlines in 2016 when 84 percent of the inaugural cohort graduated and all of those graduates found a job. The 2017 cohort maintained this success, with 119 out of 144 students graduating by 2019, resulting in an 83 percent graduation rate and 93 percent job placement.
Its clear that WTC is growing and becoming a beacon for those pursuing a job in the tech space. Those looking to hire talent from the academy are directed to email placements[at]wethinkcode[dot]co[dot[za].
