- FNB has become the headline sponsor for the App of the Year ecosystem.
- Started in 2012, the App of the Year award is now a prestigious accolade for developers across Africa.
- FNB intends to build on the successes the App of the Year ecosystem has achieved over the years.
Previous winner in the MTN Business App of the Year awards, FNB, has announced that it has taken over as the headline sponsor of the App of the Year ecosystem.
The ecosystem includes the App of the Year Roadshow, Submissions, App Academy, Virtual Hackathons, Masterclasses, Campus Cup, Judging Days and the Awards Ceremony itself. All of these activities will now feature FNB branding.
Don’t expect any monumental changes in the awards and its ambitions though as FNB looks to only build on the successes the App of the Year has achieved over the last 13 years.
“We are thrilled to lead as headline sponsors of the FNB App of the Year ecosystem. FNB continues to set new boundaries as leaders in innovation, having been crowned as the first App of the Year winners during the event’s inception in 2012, for our groundbreaking FNB App which not only revolutionised the local banking industry but set us on a path to be voted as the most innovative bank in the world on a number of occasions,” says Andiswa Bata, chief executive officer of FNB Business.
The App of the Year awards began in 2012 and back then there were as few as 50 submissions. Today the awards have grown massively and thousands of submissions come in from across Africa.
“We couldn’t be prouder to have FNB as the headline sponsor of this developer ecosystem, one that produces opportunities and solutions across Africa,” says Sizwe Zim, director at Creative Space Media, the agency that conceptualised and launched the awards. “Together, we look forward to growing this unique and empowering platform.”
Submissions for the 2024 iteration of the awards are currently open. Apps can be submitted into the categories of Consumer, Enterprise, Most Innovative, Game Changing, Health, Agricultural, Educational, Financial, Hackathon, Campus Cup, African, South African and a Huawei category.
