Kitchen Manager wins first Traction Bus contest

Kitchen Manager, an ordering and invoicing software for businesses in the hospitality industry, has won the first ever Traction Bus startup competition and prizes worth R200 000.

Run by pre-incubation company Startup Edge, Traction Bus picked 19 previously un-incubated startups in Gauteng and allocated them to an incubator in the province that catered to their relevant industry.

At the hubs the entrepreneurs were provided access to resources, incubation and mentorship over the course of one week. The aim of the competition was to expose participants to the local  the startup ecosystem.

A total 200 submissions were originally received, finalists were narrowed down to 19 then nine startups who competed and pitched at The Hook Up Dinner entrepreneurial festival 2015 during Global Entrepreneurship Week on the 18th November in Braamfontein.

Judges Alon Lits from UBER, Annie Porter from Edge Growth, Tendai Mashingaidze from Ubuntu Equity, Sam Manclark from JoziHub, Tshepo Molope from Lean Startup Machine Johannesburg and TrevorWolfe from Springleap chose Kitchen Manager based on its business model, customer validation, and execution.

“Winning the 2015 StartUp Edge Traction Bus challenge opened up some doors for us in the way of resources, access to markets and some invaluable exposure. The experience also went a long way towards refining how we pitch our software,” Kamogelo Sesing, from Kitchen Manager said in a statement.

The Coloured Cube and CubeBucks took second and third place respectively. As the winner of Traction Bus, Kitchen Manager gets access to office space, mentorship, vouchers, technical support, and assistance with funding and business support.

Startup Edge is currently preparing for Traction Bus Western Cape that will take place in March 2016 in Stellenbosch and Cape Town.
