Now you can toast the Destiny tricorn into your bread

What is it with geeks and toasters?

We blame Razer and its 2016 prank Project BreadWinner but it’s clear that gamers really like crispy bread upon which they can place their accoutrements.

Case in point – Bungie has released an official Destiny toaster.

The existence of this toaster is part community pressure and part Bungie’s own doing.

During the Gaming Community Expo in 2020, while raising money for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Bungie set the community the goal of reaching $777 777.77 in donations. If that goal was reached, the possibility of releasing a Destiny toaster would be explored.

That exploration is done and look at what Bungie uncovered.

We have to say that we’re very disappointed that the toaster doesn’t look like Destiny 2’s deadliest little toaster – Jötunn.

Destiny community manager dmg04 explained why this is.

“We saw a bunch of pretty cool concept from players, but the realities of production/manufacturing would have made it nearly impossible to execute,” the community manager wrote.

“This happens pretty often in game dev – fans share a fun concept from photoshop or a 3D program, but it doesn’t easily transfer to a game or product. Something that’s felt to be simple because it takes three clicks in an image editor can end up taking months of time and massively inflated cost when actually developing a user interface, armor set, or in this case… a toaster,” he added.

So what does this toaster do? For one it will emblazon your bread with the Destiny tricorn symbol despite the toaster feature the symbol for House of Rasmussen. We suppose that is the closest Bungie could get to referencing Jötunn aside from making the weapon an actual toaster.

You also get a sandwich holder with your purchase and if you pre-order the toaster you get the Burnt Edges emblem in game.

All of this can be yours for $84.99 or about R1 199 if you’re in South Africa like us. Bungie says that 10 percent of the profit from sales of this toaster will be donated to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

That’s a lot of money for a 700W two-slice toaster that only toasts a portion of the bread.

With all of that in mind, we’d be lying if we said we didn’t want one.

You can pre-order your Jötunn, erm toaster here.
