This week Canon unveiled an interesting new compact camera in the form of the PowerShot V10. The reason why it has piqued our interest is because the PowerShot V10 is a compact camera specifically designed with content cameras in mind and making vlogs.
Tipping the scales at just over 211g and capable of fitting into your pocket (size of pocket varies), the V10 is aimed at lifestyle and travel content creators in particular, according to Canon.
The Japanese company adds that it is, “an all-in-one solution that combines high-quality microphones with a built-in stand. It allows you to produce compelling content for your community, thanks to shake-free 4K UHD movie recording and professional looking background blur.”
The video functionality comes via a 1-inch CMOS sensor. Canon also makes still photography capture, 14 colour filter effects, and Smooth Skin mode available. There’s a Movie Digital IS mode for handheld videography too, along with being able to shoot in both portait and landscape orientations to make editing for different social media platforms easier.
“The sturdy vertical body is an entirely new design for Canon – a device so portable and unobtrusive that creators can comfortably blend in when recording themselves in crowded places. Never miss spontaneous moments and candid reactions as the centred record button is tailor-made for quick and agile one-handed camera control,” the company continued in a press release sent to Hypertext.
While we have not seen it perform in-person, this might prove a handy addition to a content creator’s arsenal.
As for recommended retail pricing, is starts from R9 699, which is for the standard kit version that includes power cable, soft case, lens cap, windshield and, wrist strap. There’s also an advanced kit that features a a cage which can be used to attach a ring light or hold an external microphone, and costs R11 999.
