Lenovo to launch Yoga Slim 7i, LOQ gaming notebooks in SA

  • This week Lenovo held an event to highlight its Creator x80 devices, with new notebooks in particular slated for South Africa.
  • Among the new devices are the Yoga Slim 7i and the LOQ gaming notebook, both of which are expected later this year.
  • The latter is the first device in this new gaming segment from Lenovo, which is the top PC gaming supplier in the world.

This week Lenovo South Africa held an event in Johannesburg to highlight its latest Creator x80 devices as part of a larger road show that the company is taking across the country.

The company highlighted six new devices in particular, with two each from its IdeaPad, Legion, and Yoga lineups that are earmarked for launch in SA later this year. While it has not provided precise launch dates, Lenovo South Africa has detailed two devices specifically – the Yoga Slim 7i and LOQ gaming notebooks.

The former is aimed at creators, while the latter is designated for gamers locally.

The LOQ sub-brand devices were revealed by Lenovo globally in March this year, with Lenovo having a full lineup of more affordably priced notebooks and a tower on offer, which should go up against the likes of HP’s Victus, ASUS TUF, and Acer Nitro options.

“With the rapidly growing demand for gaming, Lenovo is committed to providing state-of-the-art solutions that enhance productivity, unleash creativity, and deliver unparalleled gaming experiences,” added Lenovo in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“The brand-new lineup includes the powerful Intel-based Lenovo LOQ 16IRH8 and Lenovo LOQ 15IRH8 laptops, as well as the versatile Lenovo LOQ Tower 17IRB8 desktop PC. Additionally, the AMD-based Lenovo LOQ 16APH8 and Lenovo LOQ 15APH8 laptops deliver exceptional performance for immersive gameplay,” it continued.

Shifting to the Yoga option, it is very much designed to offer a combination of portability and performance, according to the Chinese manufacturer.

“The slim, light, and elegant Yoga Slim 7 (14.5”) gives users more power, portability and longer battery life than before,” the company emphasised.

“Among the standout enhancements is also the upgraded keyboard, boasting 1.5mm dish cap keys that provide unparalleled comfort and efficiency. With quicker tap response and anti-grease coated keys, users can enjoy a smoother touch experience while minimising the appearance of fingerprints and smudges,” it noted.

Added to this, with it being part of the x80 chassis platform, the Yoga Slim 7i is equipped with the company’s proprietary AI Engine+, which offers users adaptive power and battery performance based on their device usage.

In terms of pricing for these two devices, the manufacturer says the LOQ gaming notebooks will start from R16 999. The Yoga Slim 7i is recommended to retail from R29 999.

“We are confident that these products will fuel the imaginations of creators and immerse gamers in exhilarating virtual worlds, further propelling the content creation and gaming revolution in Southern Africa,” said Yugen Naidoo, GM at Lenovo South Africa.
