HP the latest to debut Copilot+ laptops

  • HP has this week unveiled two new laptops designed with Microsoft’s Copilot+ in mind.
  • The laptops are the EliteBook Ultra AI PC and OmniBook X AI PC.
  • Like other Copilot+ supporting laptops, they feature silicon from Qualcomm.

This week computing hardware manufacturers seem focused on one thing – Copilot+.

It is the new standard that Microsoft has rolled out for AI-focused Windows 11 desktop PCs and laptops, with the latter form factor seeing a number of companies debut new offerings. To that end Microsoft itself has debuted two new offerings, along with ASUS having one of its own, and Lenovo also debuting a duo of options.

Now it is the turn of HP, which has unveiled the OmniBook X AI PC and EliteBook Ultra AI PC.

HP bills these new devices as its, “first next-gen AI PCs built from the ground up with the latest ARM architecture to harness the most powerful AI technologies.” The pair are also emblazoned with an AI Helix logo to further denote their capabilities.

Like the other Copilot+ capable laptops mentioned above, the ones from HP feature silicon from Qualcomm in the form of its Snapdragon X Elite and Plus range. For those unfamiliar with Copilot+, devices that meet this standard are distinguished by the fact that the dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) is capable of 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS) to run language models and generative AI locally on the device.

“More AI apps are available every day, expanding the possibilities of what can be achieved with the newest HP next-gen AI PCs… Create and edit photos, audio, and video faster than ever with AI-enabled software that make pro features easy even for beginners,” HP added in a blog post.

As for the new devices, HP explains that they are the, “world’s thinnest next-gen AI PCs with 26 hours battery life.” While that is a rather niche title, the 24-plus hours of battery life is certainly an interesting prospect.

HP also notes that the new laptops are able to stream up to 12 hours of Microsoft Teams calls or up to 22 hours of Netflix. Added to this is the ability to open a large Microsoft Excel file almost twice as fast as previous generations of HP laptop, although we’re more interested in how it can handle generative AI tasks, which has not been shared at the time of writing.
