SPEEDRUN – BritBox goes cheerio

If you are a fan of British television, you’ll soon have one less option to enjoy such content as BritBox is set to cease operations in South Africa.

The streaming platform, which featured exclusive series and movies from the BBC and ITV, has this week began informing customers that it will no longer be available from 30th August 2024 onwards in SA.

MultiChoice has told Hypertext that BritBox will also no longer be available on the Explora Ultra and Streama devices when September rolls around.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that BritBox will be closing in South Africa on 30 August 2024. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for all your loyalty and support. Your final monthly subscription payment will be collected normally in July, after which you will have one month to watch your favourite shows on BritBox,” the streaming platform has emailed customers this week.

While there are still a few months to go before BritBox stops streaming locally, joining that news in this morning’s SPEEDRUN roundup is disappearing parts of the internet, the latest State of Small Business Report, a three-year partnership from Acer on school esports, and applications for a WeThinkCode_ program.
